The CBI raided the residences of an Income Tax Commissioner and at least five other senior officials in Mumbai on Wednesday morning, official sources said. Among those raided was ITC (Appeals) B.B. Rajendra Prasad who has been arrested along with five other officers on charges of graft.
The Central Bureau of Investigation team has reportedly recovered large amounts of cash amounting to around Rs 15 million, investment details and other incriminating documents from their residences in south Mumbai and other places, the sources added.
The accused were likely to be produced before a court on charges pertaining to corruption and other offences even as further investigations were underway.
However, top IT and CBI officials in the city remained tight-lipped about the details of the CBI action which commenced late on Tuesday night and continued till Wednesday morning.
Further details of the CBI operations were awaited.
