Hospital death: Mamata meets bereaved family, promises job Last Updated : 15 Mar 2017 06:31:54 PM IST (File Photo)
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday met the bereaved family members of Sunil Pandey who died at a private city hospital earlier this week.
She promised a government job to one of the family members of the deceased.
Pandey, who was admitted to the Medica Superspecialty Hospital in Kolkata's southern outskirts due to cardiac problems, died on Monday morning allegedly due to "wrong treatment and negligence".
"As my husband was the sole earning member of the family, Didi (elder sister as Banerjee is affectionately called) said she would also provide a government job to one of our family members if we want," the wife of the deceased said.
According to Pandey's wife, the Chief Minister also assured to look into the issue of negligence herself and take necessary action if the allegations are true.
"The Chief Minister met us and said she would look into the issue herself and take necessary steps so that such incidents do not recur.
"She also asked about the family's situation and about my son in particular," said the widow, who earlier lodged a police complaint against the hospital at East Jadavpur police station.
"I have faith in her. I believe that she would take necessary action so that such incidents do not happen again," she added.
Pandey was admitted to the Medica Superspecialty Hospital with chest pain, on March 6 and underwent multiple surgeries, including a leg amputation in the last few days. On Monday morning, doctors at the hospital declared him dead.
Pandey's wife and his close friends claimed he had no major illness earlier and accused the hospital of "finishing him by wrong treatment".IANS For Latest Updates Please-
