People of North India are all set to celebrate the harvest festival of 'Lohri' with full enthusiasm and fervor on Friday, 13 January 2017.

The festival of Lohri is celebrated by lighting bonfire outside the house in the evening. People offer prayers to the fire and throw puffed rice, til, popcorn into the flame.

The festival of worshiping fire, Lohri, is observed as a festival of fertility and the day is very important for the newly wed couples and newly born babies.

On this day people singh traditional Lohri songs, wear their brightest clothes and come to dance the bhangra and gidda to the beat of the dhol.

People also exchange greetings on this day. To greet each other on the auspicious day of Lohri, people send Lohri SMS, messages and Lohri scraps.
