The people of India are all set to celebrate the festival of Makar Sankranti with full enthusiasm and fervor on Wednesday, 14 January 2015. As per Hindu traditions, the sun enters the tropic of Capricorn, known as 'makar rekha' in Sanskrit, from 'dhanu rekha' (tropic of Sagittarius) on this day and hence the festival is termed 'Makar Sankranti'. The Sankranti festival is celebrated all across India with various names. In Tamil Nadu, people celebrate Sankranti as Pongal while in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka it is observed as Bhogi.
